KIEN2161 English: Academic and Professional Skills for Humanities
AUTUMN 2018 (3ECTS)
This integrated skills course is intended for Humanities students to support them in their academic studies. Students develop their abilities in reading, writing, listening and speaking in addition to the special discourse and terminology of their fields, and create a portfolio of work to showcase these skills. Emphasis is placed on active student participation.
KIEN 2367 English: Technical Writing
Spring 2019 (2ECTS)
This course is only for DI (Diplomi Insinööri) students. The course is offered as a classroom course or on-line course. and should be taken with KIEN2366 Technical English Oral Skills. These course together comprise a 4-credit package called "Technical English" . The course focuses on writing clear, well-structured technical reports; the key elements involved in technical writing; recognizing and producing writing suitable for a variety of technical environments and audiences;
raising awareness of the research and principles of electronic writing.
KIEN2464 English for Biomedicine

This integrated skills course is intended for Biomedicine students to help them in their academic studies. Students develop their abilities in reading, writing, listening and speaking in addition to the special discourse and terminology of their field. Emphasis is placed on active student participation.
AUTUMN 2018 (2 ECTS) and SPRING 2018
In this course participants practice the skills needed to write academically in English for international journals and at the same time cover aspects of grammar and lexis. Items include academic vocabulary, textual organization and flow, punctuation and the format and structure of academic articles. Participants use their own texts as the basis of analysis and also get a chance to have their own work reviewed and checked. This course is based on lectures, workshops and drop-in clinics and a private feedback session with the teachers. Participantscan select and tailor which sessions they partcipate in based on their needs and stage in the writing process.
KIEN3025 Academic Grammar for Researchers (UTUGS)
AUTUMN 2018 and SPRING 2019 (2ECTS)
Academic Grammar for Researchers is designed for doctoral candidates from all faculties who need to write articles for international publication and who would need help with writing accurately in English. The course gives the fundamental rules and guidelines of the practical grammar needed for effective academic writing. Students will use their own writing and in-class activities to practice grammar in context. In all exercises, the emphasis is on effective academic communication through grammar, not grammar for its own sake.
KIEN3041 Academic Presentations Doctoral Researchers (UTUGS)
AUTUMN 2018 & SPRING 2019 (2 ECTS)
The Presentation skills course is designed for doctoral level students from all faculties (except the medical faculty who have their own course) who need to present their research at conferences.
